FORMS, LINES, COLOURS...

The geometric forms - squares and circles - descend directly from the chessboard. Their movements and transformations indicate the dynamics which occur during the game: physical, logical, emotional, imaginative. The shapes and compositions are inter alia inspired by works of Russian-Sowjet Constructivism and Concrete Art.

The sharp and very exact lines will be executed by free hand only while applying the oil paints. No tape will be used in order to reach the full control over the working process.

The choice of the classical colour palette is inspired by the Dutch and German paintings of the 17th and 18th centuries. This is preceded by an extensive and detailed analysis of the sections of the artworks of the old masters.

"In chess there are some extremely beautiful things in the domain of movement, but not in the visual domain. It's the imagining of the movement or of the gesture that makes the beauty".
